ICAS-Maths (Sitting Date: 4 August, Tuesday)
AMC (Sitting Date: TBC)

What is ICAS?

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. ICAS are developed annually for primary and secondary school students in the subject areas of Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Writing.

ICAS are produced by the Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), an education group of UNSW Global Pty Limited, a not-for-profit provider of education, training and advisory services and a wholly owned enterprise of the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

ICAS form the largest independent assessment program for schools in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, India and the Pacific region with more than two million entries annually.

What is AMC?

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is run by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), a not-for-profit organisation and its board includes representatives from the Australian Association of mathematics teachers, Australian Academy of science and Australian mathematical society.

AMC was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems.

International Standard

All participants receive a worldwide-recognised certificate (High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Participation) and a detailed report showing how they perform in answering each question, with comparison to wider statistics. Using this data, parents and teachers can easily track the progress of student learning through each year level, build up strengths and target weaknesses. This way, students are able to continually improve and move closer to achieving their highest potential.

ICAS-Maths 2017 Intensive

(Classes commence Apr’17)

Suitable for students from Year 2 to Year 12 (Std 2 to Form 6)

TeamMathicians’ Achievement in ICAS & AMC 2016

There were more than one hundred TeamMathics students taking part in ICAS and AMC last year and they won 3 ICAS Gold Medals, 6 AMC Prize Medals, 32 High Distinction and 125 Distinction awards.

Well done, TeamMathicians!

TeamMathics as the official appointed Exclusive Training Partner for AMO, SASMO, SIMOC and AIMO, will continue to help students develop their strategic planning and proving skills. The process of acquiring these skills will enable our students to be stretched a bit at a time so that they can enjoy success and eventually prepare them for solving challenging and non-routine questions in Maths Olympiad competitions.

What is ICAS?

With the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) by University of New South Wales, students can learn, grow and reach their full potential. ICAS quality skills-based assessments give a deeper understanding of students’ learning needs and standards in Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, English, and Mathematics.

Year 2 students can use 35 minutes to answer 30 MCQ (multiple choice questions). Meanwhile for Year 3 to 5, 45 minutes to answer 40 MCQ. And for Year 6 to 12, 60 minutes to answer 35 MCQ and 5 non-MCQ (whole number answer).

Many may not be aware that Reasoning Skills are some of the most important elements in higher order thinking. Reasoning is the action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way and to find an answer to a problem by considering possible options.

The mind is like any other muscle. It requires exercise and stimulation. Reasoning Skills can be improved by engaging in activities/ maths problems that encourage critical thinking. We believe that using proper and systematic problem-solving steps in solving maths problems can help to improve Reasoning Skills effectively. That is why we have been actively promoting the 3-Step OASIS System at various Parent Talks, Teacher Conferences, School Workshops, Educational Exhibition and Competition Training Courses.
