ICAS-Maths (Sitting Date: 30 July, Tuesday)
AMC (Sitting Date: 1 August, Thursday)

What is ICAS?

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. ICAS are developed annually for primary and secondary school students in the subject areas of Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Writing.

ICAS are produced by the Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), an education group of UNSW Global Pty Limited, a not-for-profit provider of education, training and advisory services and a wholly owned enterprise of the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

ICAS form the largest independent assessment program for schools in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, India and the Pacific region with more than two million entries annually.

What is AMC?

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is run by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), a not-for-profit organisation and its board includes representatives from the Australian Association of mathematics teachers, Australian Academy of science and Australian mathematical society.

AMC was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems.

International Standard

All participants receive a worldwide-recognised certificate (High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Participation) and a detailed report showing how they perform in answering each question, with comparison to wider statistics. Using this data, parents and teachers can easily track the progress of student learning through each year level, build up strengths and target weaknesses. This way, students are able to continually improve and move closer to achieving their highest potential.

DOKA 2019 Intensive

(Classes commence in end Mar’19)

DOKA 2019 will be available in 21 countries!!!
🇧🇭🇧🇬🇰🇭🇨🇳🇭🇰🇮🇳🇮🇩🇮🇷🇰🇿🇱🇦🇲🇾🇲🇻🇲🇳🇲🇲🇵🇭🇸🇬🇱🇰🇹🇼🇹🇭🇺🇿🇻🇳

Depth of Knowledge Assessment (DOKA) is the LATEST annual mathematical problem-solving assessment organized by SMO Education Group and Academy TeamMathics, co-organized by SIMCC and supported by International Scholastic Trust. It is designed based on Depth of Knowledge in Problem Solving, to develop students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and to sharpen Reasoning Skills in students.

Many may not be aware that Reasoning Skills is one of the most important elements in higher order thinking. Reasoning is the action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way and to find an answer to a problem by considering possible options.

DOKA IS SPECIAL!!!

DOKA is SPECIAL and unlike any other math olympiad/competitions. It comprises FOUR parts:

Part A: Basic Reasoning – Apply information or conceptual knowledge, usually using one method for a single problem with multi steps.
Part B: Intermediate Reasoning (Non-Verbal) – Understand and analyze visual information.
Part C: Advanced Reasoning – Require creative thinking for strategic planning on a sequence of multi steps, usually combining 2 or more heuristics for a single problem.
Part D: Extended Reasoning – Require critical thinking to interpret complex information, to find the hidden data/ pattern, then make necessary connections to smoothen the problem-solving process (Math Olympiad type).

Important Topics for DOKA 2019 Participants

SAMPLE QUESTIONS:

What are Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Questions? (View PDF on PC) *on Mobile, set browser to “View as Desktop”

DOKA has now expanded and provides a healthy competitive platform for students in Malaysia (from Year 1 to 13 / Std 1 to A-Levels/STPM) to assess their HOTS and IQ ability among their own year level group. Parents and school teachers can also take this opportunity to assess their children and students BEFORE they attempt more challenging maths competitions or IQ tests in future.

DOKA – Addressing current problems faced by students and teachers (View PDF on PC) *on Mobile, set browser to “View as Desktop”

Solutions Manual and Student’s Analysis Report will be provided after the DOKA. With these, students can learn creative heuristic methods recommended to solve complex mathematical problems, as well as, knowing their strengths and areas for improvement based on the distribution of DOK.

All HD, D and HC Award winners in DOKA 2019 will be invited to join the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) in Kuala Lumpur, Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) in Taiwan and Singapore Math Global Team Competition (SINGA) in Vietnam with participants from other countries.

DOKA questions are set in bilingual trilingual version – BAHASA, CHINESE & ENGLISH.

[REGISTRATION CLOSING DATE: 12TH APRIL 2019]

DOKA will be happening on 14th May 2019, Tuesday. DON’T MISS OUT!!!

KMC 2019 Intensive

(Classes commence in Jan’19)

Kangaroo Math Competition (KMC) is an annual international math competition for primary and secondary school students.

In the early 1980s, Peter O’Holloran, a math teacher at Sydney, started a math competition in Australian schools. The competition was in multiple choice format, which meant that thousands of pupils could participate at the same time. The contest, which was known as the Australian Mathematical National Contest, was a tremendous success.

In 1991, two French teachers, André Deledicq and Jean Pierre Boudine, decided to start a competition in France under the name “Kangaroo” (or Kangourou in French) to pay tribute to their Australian friends. In the first edition, 120,000 students took part. In the first few years, the contest grew until more than 20 European countries participated. The countries jointly formed the Association Kangourou sans Frontieres (AKSF), which in English means the Association of Kangaroo Without Borders.

MAA-AMC10/12 2019 Intensive

(Classes commence in Jan’19)

For over 60 years many excellent exams have been prepared by individuals throughout our mathematical community in the hope that all secondary students will have an opportunity to participate in these problem solving and enriching mathematics experiences. The MAA’s American Mathematics Contests (MAA-AMC) are designed to engage students and teachers in effective mathematical problem solving that is consistent with curricular goals, and to prepare students for future mathematical success.

In United States of America, MAA-AMC is highly recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and especially valuable for applying into Universities. The MAA-AMC program positively impacts the analytical skills needed for future careers in an innovative society. MAA-AMC are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in secondary school students from Year 7 to A-Levels (or Form 1 to Form 6).
