Just like playing football. If we want to play well, we go for training, we go for tournaments/competitions. Then, we improve and get better at it.

Just like the former Professor who commented in Quora below; Mathematics CAN be a hobby!

Just like Martin Gardner's well-known recreational maths problems. The problems he created were designed to get us thinking, as he noted many people do not like to think. He believes that humans are terrific at thinking when we choose to do so, it is just that people find it easier not to.

The problems that Gardner made does not need extensive expertise to come up with a "solution" for them. We just need logic, and common sense.

Here's a famous problem from Mr. Gardner:
𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗲𝗿. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵?

Again, once you see the answer, you will be surprised by its simplicity. There is a very simple mathematical principle at play in this problem. You can also solve this problem with your child using actual socks!

Enjoy Learning Maths!
