ICAS-Maths (Sitting Date: 4 August, Tuesday)
AMC (Sitting Date: TBC)

What is ICAS?

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. ICAS are developed annually for primary and secondary school students in the subject areas of Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Writing.

ICAS are produced by the Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), an education group of UNSW Global Pty Limited, a not-for-profit provider of education, training and advisory services and a wholly owned enterprise of the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

ICAS form the largest independent assessment program for schools in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, India and the Pacific region with more than two million entries annually.

What is AMC?

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is run by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), a not-for-profit organisation and its board includes representatives from the Australian Association of mathematics teachers, Australian Academy of science and Australian mathematical society.

AMC was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems.

International Standard

All participants receive a worldwide-recognised certificate (High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Participation) and a detailed report showing how they perform in answering each question, with comparison to wider statistics. Using this data, parents and teachers can easily track the progress of student learning through each year level, build up strengths and target weaknesses. This way, students are able to continually improve and move closer to achieving their highest potential.

SASMO 2020 Intensive (Feb-Mar)

(Classes commence in Feb’20)

Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) is an international mathematics competition that is organised by Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) and supported by non-profit foundations International Scholastic Trust (IST) and SASMO Advisory Council (SAC) with more than 30,000 participants from 21 countries in 2019.

The SASMO Team with the support of Advisory Council spend countless hours carefully developing contest papers which will touch on both school and Olympiad maths. This combined effort allows participants to do better compared to pure-Olympiad papers, since they are familiar with some questions and can put on their thinking caps for others, bringing out the inner mathematician in them.

With realistic and high standards, SASMO contests aim to stretch the untapped thinking potential of the student population, their participation in SASMO will help them improve in school mathematics as well as higher order thinking skills (HOTS).

SASMO caters to the top 40% of the student population and it aims to cultivate students’ interest in mathematical problem solving to develop mathematical intuition, reasoning, logical, creative and critical thinking.

SASMO is open to Year 2 to 11 (Primary 2 to Secondary 5) Malaysian students.

All Malaysian students who have won Gold/ Silver/ Bronze Award in SASMO 2020 will be invited to join SIMOC (Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge) in Singapore and AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad) in South Korea. Malaysian students who have won Gold/ Silver Award will be invited to join STEAM AHEAD 2020: IJMO (International Junior Math Olympiad) in Bali, Indonesia. Contest entry is available on a first come first served basis, so register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

KMC 2020 Intensive (Feb-Mar)

(Classes commence in Feb’20)

Kangaroo Math Competition (KMC) is an annual international math competition for primary and secondary school students.

In the early 1980s, Peter O’Holloran, a math teacher at Sydney, started a math competition in Australian schools. The competition was in multiple choice format, which meant that thousands of pupils could participate at the same time. The contest, which was known as the Australian Mathematical National Contest, was a tremendous success.

In 1991, two French teachers, André Deledicq and Jean Pierre Boudine, decided to start a competition in France under the name “Kangaroo” (or Kangourou in French) to pay tribute to their Australian friends. In the first edition, 120,000 students took part. In the first few years, the contest grew until more than 20 European countries participated. The countries jointly formed the Association Kangourou sans Frontieres (AKSF), which in English means the Association of Kangaroo Without Borders.

DOKA 2020 Intensive (Jan-Feb)

(Classes commence in Jan’20)

🇧🇭🇧🇬🇰🇭🇨🇳🇭🇰🇮🇳🇮🇩🇮🇷🇰🇿🇱🇦🇲🇾🇲🇻🇲🇳🇲🇲🇵🇭🇸🇬🇱🇰🇹🇼🇹🇭🇺🇿🇻🇳

Depth of Knowledge Assessment (DOKA) is an International Mathematical Problem-Solving Competition held annually around the globe. It is jointly organized by SMO Education Group, Academy TeamMathics, SIMCC and supported by International Scholastic Trust.

Many may not be aware that Reasoning Skills is one of the most important elements in higher order thinking. Reasoning is the action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way and to find an answer to a problem by considering possible options.

DOKA and DOKA National Final provide healthy competitive platforms for students from Year 1 to 13 (Primary 1 to A-Levels/STPM) to assess their HOTS and IQ ability among their own year level group. Parents and school teachers can also take this opportunity to assess their children and students BEFORE they attempt more challenging maths competitions or IQ tests in future.

All Malaysian students who have won High Distinction/ Distinction/ High Credit in DOKA 2019 will be invited to join the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) Final in Chiang Mai, Thailand and High Distinction/ Distinction/ High Credit in DOKA 2020 will be invited to join the DOKA (National Final) in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Final in Macau. Malaysian students who have won High Distinction/ Distinction in DOKA 2020 will be invited to join SIMOC (Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge) in Singapore and AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad) & WMGO Final in South Korea. Contest entry is available on a first come first served basis, so register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

[REGISTRATION CLOSING DATE: 3RD FEBRUARY 2020]
